Wilson Community College and the University of Mount Olive have signed a partnership agreement that will improve the transfer of credits for community college students.

WCC students who have earned an associate of applied science degree can transfer easily into programs at UMO.

The two colleges will enhance and expand the UMO participation in the North Carolina Community College Independent Colleges and Universities Universal General Education Transfer Component Agreement.

With this agreement, the transfer of credits for associate of arts and associate of science graduates will be honored. This will also permit WCC students to be eligible to make application for state and federal financial aid.

Rob Holsten, WCC vice president of academic affairs, said the arrangement will create an opportunity for community college students to advance their education.

“We are excited about partnering with the University of Mount Olive to offer more options for students to continue their studies after completing their two-year degree here at Wilson Community College, Holsten said. “This type of partnership furthers the college’s mission to help students reach their educational goals, and adds to existing opportunities for transferable degrees.”

The University of Mount Olive will have an admission representative on site at WCC with regular hours and will be able to advise students on how they might transfer to

“UMO will provide current WCC students and recent graduates guaranteed admission and acceptance of appropriate transfer hours, up to 64 credits from specified (associate of arts in science) programs with a minimum GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale,” Rhonda Jessup, director of public relations, said in a release. “WCC graduates will be eligible for consideration of the full range of academic programs at the University of Mount Olive locations.”

The University of Mount Olive has locations in Mount Olive, New Bern, Wilmington, Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, Research Triangle Park, Washington, Jacksonville, and in Smithfield at Johnston Community College.
