GOLDSBORO — The Wilson Christian Academy Blue girls basketball team pitched a shutout in each of the second and third quarters en route to a 22-4 victory against host Faith Christian on Friday afternoon.
The Lady Chargers evened their record at 2-2 behind eight points from Hailey Carnes and four each from Reagan Barnes, Kate Hoskins, Ellyn Watson and Patsy Price.
WCA opposes Wake Christian on Tuesday.
Ziyear Barnes’ 14 points led the Springfield boys basketball team in a losing effort Thursday afternoon following the Wildcats’ 47-35 loss to South Edgecombe.
Springfield travels to Elm City on Monday.
Elm City splits pair of games
The Elm City boys basketball team pocketed its first victory of 2017-18 as part of a 1-1 split against South Edgecombe and Speight this week.
Elm City defeated Speight 48-11 on Thursday while dropping a 50-37 decision on the road at South Edgecombe on Monday.
Against Speight, Donald Richardson led a balanced scoring effort with 10 points. Bryson Summerlin and Christen Battle each had nine. Ty’Rell Boykin tacked on six.
Battle led the way versus South Edgecombe, pouring in 23 points. J.D. Graziana had five.
The Vikings (1-2) host Springfield on Monday.
Cyclones remain winless in loss
The Community Christian School boys basketball team conceded a 48-33 defeat to visiting Faith Christian of Rocky Mount on Thursday.
Ayden Smith led the Cyclones, winless through five games, with nine points. Seth Huston added eight.
CCS is off until Friday, Jan. 5 when it travels to 1-A/2-A Coastal Independents Conference opponent Oakwood.
Darden stops Toisnot 54-42
Xavier Honey’s 15 points led three Darden boys basketball players in double figures Thursday in a 54-42 win over Toisnot.
Darden is the guest of Forest Hills on Thursday.
