The city of Wilson recently honored 10 industries for their dedication to protecting the city’s wastewater collection and treatment system over the past year.
The 20th annual Pretreatment Compliance Awards, held May 23 at Wilson Country Club, recognized companies that city officials say are doing an excellent job of monitoring their industrial discharges and complying with their permits.
City officials thanked the industries both for providing jobs and being environmentally sensitive. Unmonitored, improper industrial discharges could disrupt the operations of the wastewater treatment plant.
Seven companies earned the gold award during 2018: Ardagh Glass Inc.; Fresenius Kabi USA LLC; Purdue Pharmaceuticals; Refresco Beverage Inc.; Smithfield Packaged Meats Corp.; Tobacco Rag Processors; and UTC Aerospace Systems/Kidde Fire Protection Systems.
Sandoz received a silver award in 2018, and bronze awards were presented to Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations LLC and Evans-Mactavish-Agricraft.
