Federal agents have captured a Wilson man wanted on a murder charge following a fatal Aug. 26 shooting near the Nash-Wilson county line.

Deputy U.S. marshals found 20-year-old Darius Nike Taylor in Georgia last Thursday and brought him to a suburban Atlanta jail, Chief Deputy Brandon Medina of the Nash County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday.

Taylor is accused of killing 27-year-old Marquise Raheem Norfleet Anderson, who lived on Akron Road just outside Black Creek. The shooting happened at a home on the 9000 block of London Church Road, which has a Wilson address but is located in Nash County.

Authorities were dispatched to a shots-fired call at 2:19 a.m. that Sunday and found Anderson suffering from a gunshot wound. Nash County EMS medics brought Anderson to Nash UNC Health Care in Rocky Mount, where he was pronounced dead.

Officials previously said a large crowd of people were outside the home when first responders arrived.

Detectives investigated Anderson’s death and obtained arrest warrants charging Taylor with one count each of first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a felon, but Medina said Taylor’s whereabouts were unknown. He was located with help from the U.S. Marshals Service.

Taylor had been convicted on a Wilson County charge of felony possession with intent to sell marijuana in December 2017 and was sentenced to two years of probation, according to N.C. Department of Public Safety records. On June 25, he was arrested on charges of unlawfully discharging a firearm and causing injury to personal property.

Deputies say Taylor is being held in the Paulding County Detention Center in Dallas, Georgia, pending extradition to North Carolina on the murder charge.

The Aug. 26 killing remains under investigation, and detectives ask anyone with information to call the Nash County Sheriff’s Office at 252-459-4121 or Twin Counties Crime Stoppers at 252-977-1111.
