A Wilson man faces charges after police say he shot a man in the leg while attending a public event Sunday at Five Points Park.

Wilson police responded to a 3:30 p.m. call to Wilson Medical Center regarding a person who had been shot. Officers arrived and spoke to the victim, 28-year-old Rakim J. Shackelford, who said 29-year-old Antrell J. Anderson of Wilson shot him in the leg, according to Sgt. Steve Stroud.

Shackelford also said he was attending a public event at Five Points Park in the 1500 block of Sauls Street when Anderson approached him and shot him, Stroud said. Stroud said the incident was “domestic-related.”

Police obtained warrants for Anderson’s arrest on Monday and officers took him into custody at his home.

Anderson is charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and discharging a firearm in the city limits. He was jailed under a $250,000 secured bond.

Police ask anyone with information to call the Wilson Police Department at 252-399-2323. For anonymous tips, call Crime Stoppers at 252-243-2255.
