When you think about hospital services, emergency care is probably the first type of service that comes to mind. Did you know that Wilson Medical Center offers a multitude of services, in addition to emergency services, available to the community? I'd like to share with you some of services we provide, right here at your community hospital.
Obviously, we offer the "standard" type of services offered at most community hospitals such as emergency care, in-patient care, obstetrical care, X-ray and laboratory services. We also offer a number of specialized services to patients in our area.
Did you know that our dietary department prepares an average of 185 meals per week for the local home-delivered meals program? Menus are planned by a registered dietitian and are analyzed for calorie, protein, fat, calcium and sodium content to meet federal guidelines. It is then pre-packaged and delivered in bulk to local distribution centers. Our dietary department also offers outpatient nutrition counseling with a physician order.
Our Outpatient Imaging Center offers 3D mammography - an advanced technology that allows us to detect breast cancer earlier and more effectively than a traditional 2D mammogram. We offer self-requesting mammography (no physician order needed), same-day results and welcome walk-ins from 1 to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 1 to 3 p.m. on Fridays.
Do you or someone you know snore a lot while sleeping? It is possible they could benefit from a sleep study in our newly renovated sleep center. We have four rooms where we have the capability to determine if a person suffers from sleep apnea, a condition where a person stops breathing while sleeping.
During the summer months, many of us (me included) tend to overexert ourselves working in the yard or taking part in other physical activities. We have a very active physical therapy department, but we also offer rehabilitation services that are very unique to the area. We have a specialized therapy program called LSVT BIG that is designed specifically for people with Parkinson disease. Additionally, we have a pelvic health therapist who can evaluate and treat a multitude of conditions including incontinence, constipation, pelvic pain and pregnancy-related pain.
Many people may be unaware of the cardiac services we offer, including heart ultrasounds, cardiac stress testing and cardiac catheterization. We hope you never need these services, but it is nice to know it is available locally if needed.
Earlier this year, we opened a new 24-bed behavioral health unit. The unit offers adult and geriatric stabilization services and provides 24/7 comprehensive care. Our multidisciplinary treatment services include individualized treatment, recreational therapy, medication management, individual, family and group therapy and stress management.
Are you looking for a primary care physician, or even a specialist? Our physician referral line, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, provides you and your family one number to connect to hundreds of doctors and health care services in Wilson County.
