Wilson’s Adyson Clemmer, Sadie Page and Will Clark each claimed age-group titles at the Wilson Family YMCA’s ninth annual Youth Triathlon, held Saturday, Aug. 18, at Recreation Park.
Clemmer posted the best time in the Girls Ages 5-7 division as she swam 50 yards, biked a mile and a half and ran a half-mile in 20 minutes, 57 seconds.
Page, a Youth Tri veteran at age 16, added to her age-group wins even though she was the only competitor in the Girls Ages 14-17 division. She finished the course (150-yard swim; 4 1/2-mile bike ride; 1 1/2-mile run) in 40:45. Clark claimed his first age-group triumph at the Wilson Youth Tri by finishing first out of six competitors in the Boys Ages 11-13 division. Clark posted the fastest times in the 4 1/2-mile bike ride and 1 1/2-mile run on his way to a finish of 32:34, nearly six minutes better than runner-up and fellow Youth Tri “veteran” Jayden Matthews of Sims.
Jayden’s sister, Paige, took second in the Girls Ages 11-13 class, won by Ava Creech of Garner in 37:02.
Other age-group winners were Isaac Gribbin of Goldsboro (Boys Ages 5-7; 15:30), Sage Jones of Kinston (Girls Ages 8-10, 28:07), Maxim Epifanov of Cary (Boys Ages 8-10, 25:17) and Goldsboro’s Alec Fritzinger, who was unopposed in Boys Ages 14-17 as he finished in 29:51. The closest race was Boys Ages 8-10 as Epifanov edged runner-up Harry Gribbin of Goldsboro by a mere two seconds.
