The Wilson Youth Soccer Association ‘03 Explosion racked up its fifth shutout of the spring season with a 3-0 defeat of Neuse River Futbol Alliance on Sunday at Gillette Soccer Complex.

The win strengthened the Explosion’s hold on first place in the North Carolina Youth Soccer Association’s 16U Boys Second Division East 2 with a 7-0-1 record. Wilson is seven points ahead of second-place Wake FC Trinity Fire.

Will Hoskins scored the first goal for the Explosion, with John T. Conoley on the assist, while Jimmy Mendez converted a pass from Carlos Chavez to give Wilson a 2-0 lead

Hoskins found the net again in the second half, with Mendez on the assist. Frankie Peele made one save in the first while Jon Tyler Jobe had two stops in the second as they combined on the shutout, the fifth in the last six matches for the Explosion.

The Explosion finishes the regular season Saturday at Gillette against Triangle United Soccer Association Bronze.

‘04 Explosion 2nd in First Division

A first-half goal proved to be decisive for North Carolina FC White North in its 1-0 win over the ‘04 Explosion on Friday, April 5, at Gillette.

The loss ended the first season in the 15U Boys First Division East for the Explosion, who finished second behind NCFC White North (9-1-0). Wilson, which finished 7-2-2 in league play, won just once in league games two years ago and went 4-4-2 and finished sixth in the Second Division East last spring.

Team members are Walker Barnes, Oc Bolt, Will Braswell, Christian Chavez, Dalton Comstock, Cesar Garcia, Ben Guthrie, Nick Halverson, Nathan Lozevski, Kevin Moran, Ariel Nunez, Mason Ross, Miguel Rodriguez, Jon Sanchez, Taylor Sullivan, Devin Whitehead and Ricardo Zamora.

Overall, the ‘04 Explosion is 11-3-3 this spring with games remaining April 27-28 in the Tournament of Champions in Holly Springs.

‘02 Explosion gets 2nd win

The ‘02 Explosion drilled visiting Neuse River Futbol Alliance Blue 6-0 on Sunday at Gillette for its second win of the spring.

Emanuel Ruffin scored a pair of goals for Wilson, which improved to 2-3-2 in 17U Boys Second Division East 1 while NRFA Blue dopped to 0-5-0.

Roberto Juarez-Vera, Rogelio Ortiz-Flores and Eliott Resendiz each scored a goal to give the Explosion a 3-0 halftime lead. Resendiz, Leo Giddens and Graham Walston each had an assist.

Ruffin punched in a shot following a throw-in from Giddens before scoring in unassisted fashion five minutes later.

Walston slammed in the rebound of a Ruffin shot that came off the Blue keeper in the 65th minute for Wilson’s final goal.

Bennett Goings made four saves in goal for his first shutout of the spring.

The Explosion has one match remaining, a make-up game versus Lumber River Soccer Association Bladen FC, to be announced.


‘07 Explosion Ladies get win, tie

In a pair of games played at Gillette last weekend, the ‘07 Explosion Ladies enjoyed an offensive explosion Saturday in 6-1 victory against NRFA Ladies Silver before batting Seashore Soccer League Blue to a scoreless draw on Sunday.

Madyson Brown and Paige Mathews knocked in two goals and made two assists each in Saturday’s win. Avery Williams and Gretchen Weeks each added a goal while Sarah Peters and Weeks also had an assist each.

Peters made 11 saves in goal in a game that was tied 1-1 at the half.

Peters came up big in Sunday’s draw with SSL Blue, notching 13 saves.

The ‘07 Explosion has two matches remaining, both in May.
