The Wilson Youth Soccer Association ‘06 Explosion U11 Girls picked up two shutout wins and a draw over the past two weekends of play in the U.S. Youth Soccer National League’s Piedmont Conference.

The Explosion clipped James Island (South Carolina) Youth Soccer Club 2006 Red 1-0 on Sept. 21 at Gillette Soccer Complex and then thumped Cainhoy Athletic Soccer Club (Charleston, S.C.) ‘06 Wave 3-0 the next day at Rotary Park. Last Sunday, Sept. 29, the Explosion battled North Carolina Football Club Durham-Chapel Hill ‘06 Gold to a 1-1 draw at Gillette.

Mariah Polk scored the game’s only goal in the win over James Island on Sept. 21 then scored Wilson’s first two goals in the Sept. 22 victory against Cainhoy Athletic. Kamyla Hill had the Explosion’s final goal. Darby Wallig recorded both shutouts in goal for Wilson.

Against NCFC Gold DCH, Avery Williams took a slip header from Polk and scored on a counter 10 minutes into the second half. NCFC got the equalizer with seven minutes left in the match.

The Explosion, now 4-1-1 in Piedmont play, visits Coastal Development Soccer League teams Wilmington and and YRed on Saturday in Wilmington.

Lily McGlaughon and Iris Martinez-Vasquez each scored goals for the Explosion, which built a 2-0 lead only to see NCFC get the equalizer in the final minutes. Sarah Peters had eight saves in goal for the Explosion, which lost a pair of matches last weekend.
