Avery Williams went on a scoring binge for the Wilson Youth Soccer Association ‘07 Explosion girls last weekend at the Summer Explosion Cup, but the team wasn’t able to translate into a victory in round-robin play against the Pitt-Greenville Stars and Wake Futbol Club Force G at Gillette Soccer Complex.
Williams had all six of the team’s goals on the weekend, scoring two in each match.
WYSA fell 6-2 to Wake Futbol Club in its opening match before dropping a 5-2 decision to the Pitt Greenville Stars in match No. 2. WYSA wrapped up the weekend with a 4-2 loss to Pitt Greenville in the bracket semifinals.
Gretchen Weeks and Madyson Brown had two assists each in pool play, one coming in each match.
In the semifinals, Brown tacked on a third assist, while a punt from goalkeeper Sarah Peters helped set up WYSA’s other tally.
Peters logged 31 saves over the three-match span.
WYSA returns to action Saturday, Aug. 25 at Tar River Youth Soccer Association of Rocky Mount.
