Young Life of Wilson celebrated a year of activities and made goals for the coming year at its recent banquet.
Those attending learned about the past year, including the organization’s weekly “Club,” an outreach night for area high school students. More than 100 students attended this fall, with 50 to 60 each week, according to Will Bennett, area director. The weekly Bible study, Campaigners, has also grown, he said.
“At Campaigners, students learn what it means to follow Jesus, live out their faith and share it with others.”
This fall, 57 students and leaders attended Windy Gap Young Life Camp.
Bennett said the volunteer leadership group has grown from six to 12. The group wants to start a YL Club at Hunt in the next year. Currently YL is at Fike, Greenfield and Barton.
“These things are all great, and it’s exciting to see this amazing growth, but what those of us in YL are really excited about is loving and caring adults entering into high school students’ world, showing them they matter and sharing the gospel with them,” he said.
“This happens on a daily basis through YL. At coffee shops, fast food restaurants, sporting events, plays and wherever high school students are, Young Life leaders are showing up and telling them they matter.
“YL is not an event, place or person, it’s loving adults who first and foremost love Jesus, then love high-schoolers enough to form friendships with them to share that good news with them.”
