Two weekend events in September will raise funds for the Maggie Society, a Wilson-based canine rescue, rehabilitation and education non-profit.

On Sunday, Sept. 8, Carolina Billiards will host a “Dog Day Afternoon” from 3 to 7 p.m. at 3505 Airport Blvd. NW. Take your dogs out to enjoy playing in swimming pools and sprinklers, frolic with an abundance of toys and chow down on special snacks from the grill. Chicken plates (for humans) are available for $8 each or donate a bag of Purina Adult Chow or Purina Puppy Chow to receive a plate. Proceeds from a 50/50 raffle will go directly to the Maggie Society.

The15th annual Free Car Show will be held 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14, at Black Creek United Methodist Church with donations benefiting the Maggie Society and the church. The car show is free to attend and is open to any type of vehicle, including race cars, classic and modern cars, trucks, big rigs, military vehicles, buses, RVs, tractors, motorcycles and boats.

In addition to the Maggie Society being onsite with adoptable dogs, the event also features a yard sale, bake sale, vendors, door prizes, raffles, food, music and a children’s bounce house. The car show will be held rain or shine.
