Deputies say four people were shot and killed Saturday afternoon in a Wilson County home.

The shooting happened just before 1 p.m. on the 2200 block of Banks Lane East outside Wilson. Officials have not yet identified the victims. Wanda Samuel, Wilson County Sheriff’s Office chief of staff, said the deaths remain under investigation.

Luis Cuentes, who has lived on Banks Lane for more than four years, said he was eating lunch when he heard four or five gunshots.

“It just makes you afraid, because your neighborhood is not safe anymore,” said Fernando Mora, who accompanied Cuentes to the corner to ask deputies blocking the road about access to their home.

Mora said he wasn’t aware of any violent crime on his street in the time he’s lived there.

“Just a couple of things going missing,” he said, “but nothing this big.”

Wilson County deputies were dispatched to Banks Lane at 12:53 p.m. The street was blocked during the investigation, and a line of marked and unmarked cars were parked along the right side. The sheriff’s office mobile command post and a home cordoned off by yellow tape was visible in the distance.

Several people who said they were related to the victims consoled each other at the corner of Banks Lane and N.C. 42. They declined to answer questions before leaving in a gray Honda coupe.

One of the victims is a man who did maintenance work for a property owner, according to a woman who identified herself as Brenda, but did not wish to give her last name. Brenda said she was visiting her mother, who lives on Banks Lane and had met the man when he did repair work at her home.
