The Arc of Wilson County’s popular 5K, 1-mile fun run, and walk, the Wilson Gobble Wobble, will be held virtually this year due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Arc was hoping to host the fourth annual Wilson Gobble Wobble in person, but due to participant safety being their top priority, The Arc has decided to go virtual this year.
Going virtual may actually benefit The Wilson Gobble Wobble as The Arc has partnered with RaceJoy and Run The East to allow registrants to participate anywhere they want.
“With enough positive feedback, this could be a feature in future Wilson Gobble Wobbles,” said Michael Stanford, The Arc of Wilson’s executive director. “RaceJoy allows anyone to hit the road and complete the Wilson Gobble Wobble on their favorite trail, in their favorite park or even around their neighborhood with the ‘Race Anywhere’ feature. Non-participants will be able to use RaceJoy’s app to send encouragement and cheers to their friends and family during the event.”
Thursday, Nov. 26, at 9 a.m. will still be the official date and time to complete the fourth annual running of the Arc of Wilson County Gobble Wobble. However, since the event is virtual and many participants may be traveling or having family in for the holidays, the window of completion is open from Saturday, Nov. 21, through Sunday, Nov. 29, to give participants plenty of time to complete The Wilson Gobble Wobble.
The Arc of Wilson will still have event shirts made and will announce a pick-up event or two closer to Thanksgiving. For any participants from out of town, shirts can be shipped.
