Caroline Victoria Garrett of Raleigh and James Thomas “JT” Casey III of Greenville were joined in marriage on July 27, 2019, at 5:30 p.m. on a bluff overlooking the Neuse River in New Bern. The Rev. Mike Echstenkamper officiated. Dinner and dancing followed the outdoor ceremony at Copper Ridge on the Neuse.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Carol Garrett Jr. of Raleigh. She is a graduate of St. David’s School and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in both Psychology and Peace War and Defense from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is currently a second year law student at Campbell Law School. Caroline was presented at the 2015 North Carolina Debutante Ball sponsored by the Terpsichorean Club of Raleigh. Maternal grandparents are Sandra Wood Shirley of Wilson and the late Melvin A. Shirley of Nashville. Paternal grandparents are John Carroll Garrett Sr. and the late Louise Brown Garrett of Louisburg.
The groom is the son of Dr. and Mrs. James Thomas Casey II of Greenville. He is a graduate of Junius H. Rose High School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Exercise and Sports Science. He is currently pursuing a Master of Divinity at Southeastern Seminary in Wake Forest. He is a college staff resident at the UNC-Chapel Hill Summit Church campus. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Charles Thomas Harris of Williamston, and paternal grandparents are the late Mr. and Mrs. James Thomas Casey of Raleigh.
The wedding party kicked off their wedding weekend festivities on Thursday, July 25, by enjoying a sunset sail along the Beaufort waterfront.
On Friday, July 26, the bridesmaids’ luncheon was held at Moonrakers Restaurant overlooking Taylors Creek, also in Beaufort. The luncheon was hosted by Beth Clark, Stephanie Earp, Martha Hipp, Sandra Shirley and Shannon Whitley. Also, on Friday, July 26, the groom and groomsmen enjoyed a “Groom’s River Party” hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Harris in Little Washington.
Dr. and Mrs. James Casey hosted the rehearsal dinner on Friday evening, July 26, at Persimmons Restaurant on the New Bern waterfront.
An engagement party and oyster roast was held on March 31 in Raleigh at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Bruce Boliek. Party co-hosts included Mr. and Mrs. Erik Burrus, Dr. and Mrs. Bart Danielsen, Mr. and Mrs. Scott Dannenberg, and Mr. and Mrs. Burton Stewart.
On Sunday, May 5, a bridal shower was hosted by Frances George in her home along with Emily Fountain, Susan Harrison, Juana Mikels, Elizabeth Rieker and Harriet Tharrington.
On Saturday, May 11, an “I Do BBQ” was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gay in Greenville. Barbecue co-hosts included Mr. And Mrs. Mike Cavanagh, Caroline Fairbrother and Mr. and Mrs. Greg Sullivan.
Following a honeymoon to St. Lucia, the couple will live in Durham.
