Senior four-sport athlete Edwards Garcia of Beddingfield High is the Farris & Thomas Law Attorneys Student-Athlete of the Week.
Edwards started the spring boys tennis season playing No. 1 singles and doubles with Nathan Ellis for the Bruins. In the fall, he was named Defensive MVP for the boys soccer team and landed on the 2-A Eastern Plains Conference all-conference team. Edwards also swam and ran cross-country at Beddingfield.
The son of Sandra Garcia Picasso and Ever De Leon Hernandez of Wilson, Edwards has a 3.55 GPA at Beddingfield where he is ranked 13th in his senior class. He is taking all honors, Advanced Placement and college courses.
Edwards has been in Student Government Association all four years and is the student body president as well as senior class president. He is the yearbook editor and was on the prom committee. Edwards also was a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Junior Optimist International Club, Spanish Club and Chick-fil-A Leader Academy.
He has served on the Wilson Youth Council since 2016 and has volunteered for such activities as Operation Back-to-School Backpack Giveaway, Whirligig Festival, First Fridays on the Lawn, Wilson Teen Court, Special Olympics, People of the Diversity Education Revolution voter registration drive and La Estrella church.
Edwards plans to attend UNC Greensboro where he will major in political science and philosophy. He hopes to become a lawyer.
