Junior Jones, 100, passed away April 8, 2020, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Marjorie Doris Jones; son, William Gill Jones; parents, Lee and Sudie Jones; and nine other siblings.
He is survived by his son, Thadise Lee Jones (Janet) of Elm City; daughters, Betty Lou Winstead (Moses-deceased) of Wilson, Peggy Jones of Southern Pines; grandchildren, Cindy Jones, Buddy Jones, Kenneth Jones, Marjorie Norfleet, Wendy Boykin, Cheyenne Snipes and Lisa Weiand; great-grandchildren, Bailey McDuffie, Morgan Norfleet, Brandon Boykin, Tyler Boykin, Kaylee Jones, Noah Jones, Crystal Weiand and Joshua Boyd; three great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Junior served in the Navy during World War II and has been a member of the American Legion Post 13 of Wilson for 75 years. He was committed to his family and had many close friends. Junior enjoyed going to the senior center dance. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, dancing and breakfast most mornings at McDonald’s with his son, Thadise, and daughter, Betty. He was a dedicated farmer for many years. After retirement, he stayed busy and loved to walk at least two miles every day. He was saved at age 92 and attended Tabernacle Baptist Church in Wilson.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a private graveside service will be held for the family. Dr. Joe Shakour, pastor of Tabernacle Baptist Church, will conduct the service.
