Learn new craft in workshops

The Arts Council will be offering a series of Saturday workshops at the Hammond Gallery in the Boykin Center for anyone interested in learning a new art form or just having some fun with friends.

• Sept. 7: The Art of Silk Scarf Painting. The first class in the series will be silk scarf painting with Allison Stokley. The class runs 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Learn techniques for color mixing, applying resist and several painting techniques. All materials will be provided, and each person will successfully design and execute their own silk scarf. The fee for this class is $45.

• Oct. 19: Let’s BEE Creative. Elisabeth Farnsworth will give step-by-step instruction on creating a bee painting in this class, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. All materials will be provided for an acrylic masterpiece. The fee for this class is $40.

• Nov. 9: Modern Hand Lettering 101. This modern hand lettering class is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. with instructor Emily Howard. This is not you’re your grandmother’s calligraphy. Howard will be teaching the creative art of modern hand lettering techniques. All materials will be provided. At the completion of the class, you will take home a sign to show off your newly acquired skills. The fee for this class is $40.

Also in the planning stages is a cookie decorating workshop, tentatively scheduled for Saturday Dec. 7.
