The 17th annual Charger Christmas Classic holiday basketball tournament ended Saturday afternoon and host Wilson Christian Academy remains without a boys championship.
And the 2019 tournament failed to yield a win for the Chargers. WCA fell 68-56 to Faith Christian of Rocky Mount in Saturday’s third-place game. The Chargers were beaten 58-32 by Gospel Light in the semifinals Friday.
Alamance Christian claimed the championship by a 56-55 margin against Gospel Light.
Against Faith Christian, the Chargers fell behind 38-25 at halftaime. Trailing 58-37, WCA rallied in the fourth quarter behind six points each from senior Harrison Parker and and junior Alex Horrell. WCA connected on five 3-pointers in the quarter.
Parker’s 13 points led the Chargers, who plunged to 2-7. Junior Jack Ortiz tossed in 11 points.
Senior Nyzae Lynch poured in 29 points on 13 baskets for the Patriots (7-2). Sophomore Chandler Cockrell netted 13 points.
WCA returns to North Carolina Christian School Association 2-A East Region play on Tuesday at Raleigh Christian.
